Question type: Maintenance & Repair

some idiot broke off my antenna below the whip. Is it attached from the inside? Do I have to remove the headliner to change it out?

Yep, 'fraid so. The headliner has to come out, partially. But the good news is, it is clipped on like a door panel with "Christmas Tree" clips, yes, that are going to break so buy new ones before you start, and more good news is the are only about $4 for a bag of a dozen. I have a 2006 Corolla and had the headliner begin to come off for no apparent reason and simply bought those clips at AutoZone. Good as new. The same clips at the dealer are $20. Then the antenna fix is easy, you will see. Now you can change the mast of the antenna only, if it broke off where you can get to it, it will unscrew. But if you need to replace the base, it's still not difficult, if you need step by step let me know and I can write it out.

Thanks David. Yes, I will need to replace the base. The screw in whip is still ok, I can reuse it. Im wondering if a newer style one (2009 to 2013) would be able to fit. They are shorter and a lot harder to break off.

Yeah, the 10th generation Corolla that was first sold in North America for the 2009 model year masts are shorter, but has just as many windings in it, but I don't know if it will screw in to the base or not.

no thanks, I should be ok. Should be pretty straight forward after I drop the headliner. Thanks for your help.

Hi David, I too have broken off my antenna base. However, I still have wires sticking up out of the hole in the roof. Is there anyway to splice these back together once I purchase a new part so I can avoid removing the headliner? Or do I have to remove the headliner in order to secure the base back onto the roof?
