What does 'Base' mean when searching for a used car?

LE is top of the Corolla line, S and CE have hand crank windows, no ABS, no power mirrors, no rear window defroster. The 9th Generation, 2003 through 2009 model years has the 1.8Liter 130hp, 16 valve DOHC, 1ZZ FE, a very good blend of power and economy. I have a 2006 and highly recommend it. 2005 and 2006 offered the XRS with a high performance 1.8 170hp, high rpm (8,000rpm red line) 2ZZ GE. Also I have nothing against Subaru but the difference is the Corolla has a timing chain and the Subaru a timing belt and 'interference' engine. Which is fine as long as it is changed at the interval set by Subaru. A 2006 LE should cost you about $10,000 if it has moderate mileage, say less than 70,000 miles and worth every dime (my opinion)

Base means the most basic model so no bells and whistles (ex sunroof)
