1994 ford explorer motor compatibility

Asked by candis_h Jan 27, 2015 at 12:35 AM about the 1994 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT SUV

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer XLT, When I bought it, the guy told me he rebuild the motor
but the body is horrible and a lot of things are going wrong with the inside. I was wanting
to buy another body and just drop the motor from my 1994 Ford Explorer in it. However,
before I shop around, I'm not sure what to shop for. So my question is, what year, make
and models are compatible to my 1994 Ford Explorer XLT motor. Thanks in advance!!!!

If your vehicle has a V6 it may have the 4.0 pushrod engine. The engine was used up to 1999 when both the pushrod and SOHC were used. After 1999 the SHOC was used. The engine should fit if is a 4.0. The concern you are going to have is with the electronics in newer vehicles.
