Controling a "Bouncing Betty" front suspension??

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi!
Gotta 95 Astro van that has a bouncy front suspension. Van has 115k miles on it. For at least 5 years the van was operated with TOTALY worn out shocks. I mean like GONE!!
I replaced the shocks with Monroe HD gas shocks, and replaced the rubber sway bar bushings with poly urethane. Much, MUCH better. The rest of the suspension is tight. I thought the front springs might be shot, due to worn out shocks, but I'm told this is the nature of the beast. :(
I figure my options are: Monroe Reaction shocks, front shock/over springs, and a bigger 1 1/4 inch sway bar.
Anyone else tackle this problem succesfully?

Thanks for your time,
AmmoGuy 8-)

I'm thinking you are right about the springs, I'm sure they wear a lot faster without the use of shocks. Can't you replace the springs?

Hi Ozzie, Thanks for responding. My initial impression was that the springs were shot. I know that driving on worn shocks WILL kill springs. I'm thinking after I get some other bugs worked out I'll buy a set of variable rate springs and the better Monroe shocks. For now it is minimally safe. Again any other ideas/fixes would be appreciated!
