2003 Monte Carlo will not accelerate when in gear

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My son has a 2003 Monte Carlo. This morning he tried to
drive it and it will not move. The engine starts and runs
with no problem but it will not go in reverse or drive. After
checking it out, he found greased covered metal balls in
the driveway under the in the middle of the front end of
the car.

The grease-covered metal balls (ball bearings) underneath the transmission suggest that a critical transmission bearing has failed. I would recommend having the car towed to reputable transmission shop.
We spoke to a mechanic and we are thinking it may be cv joints. The car is 200 miles away, so we are having it towed home (thank God for AAA). It’s hard to diagnose it when we are not there. Thank you for your input. Transmission is what we were initially thinking, but we are praying for it to be minor, like the cv joints.
I have similar issue with my 2004. w/54k miles out of no where it started jerking on me at a light i couldnt step on the gas after it finished having a seizure on me .My Car will only start up but will not go into drive or reverse the engine sounds a lil off but not to bad . Did you ever find out the problem with yours ? Please say its something other then the transmission....
When you find them 5 ball bearings it is your front drive shaft look up problems with front drive shaft which is your CV shaft you have two of them on these 2000 through 2005 - it's no big deal I recommend buying the whole shaft cheap as you can get it already put together I think they're around seventy-five bucks 65 to 75 bucks and it's not that big a deal to put in either you might need you have an oversized socket that you can usually rent at the auto parts store the loan it to you but you pay for it when you bring it back will give your money back
