what type of oil for oil change and how much oil with a new filter

Check your owner's manual to know for sure. Is it a 5.3L? My guess would be 5W-30 and 5-5.5 quarts. Autozone and Advance Auto have books that should tell you manufacturers suggestions as well.

My 1999.5 Silverado 1500 and my 2004 Silverado 1500 (both with the 5.3 Vortec V8) took 5.5-6 quarts of 5W30. I tried to stick with synthetic and high mileage once my trucks hit 150k miles.

Never Ever put zinc in a car with a catalytic converter.

2014 5.3 takes 8-8.5 quarts.0-w20 only and dexos compatible synthetic.

Should take about 5L the capacity is 6L but remember you'll still have a little bit of oil in resivoirs in the engine bay, I usually end up putting 4.5L in my 09 Sierra 5.3 vortex and that's perfect everytime. Pour at least 3 to 3.5 L before you start checking level.
