Fuel Pump/Filter on 2000 GMC Silverado Extended Cab

Asked by Sandy Feb 09, 2016 at 03:19 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fuel pump went bad and was replaced with no problem.  I had asked
the mechanic to replace the fuel filter, but he said they were afraid of
breaking the line.  So, a week later, I had a shop replace the fuel filter and
the lines.  A day or so later, I started to hear a "hum" and there is also a
clicking sound at a different interval.  I have had the pump checked by the
shop that installed (it went bad when I was out of town), as well as my local
shop and they say that there is nothing wrong with the new pump.  They
suggested that I replace the "new" fuel filter with a better grade, so I did,
but still have the "hum".  I have someone wanting to buy this truck and I
would like to know if this "hum" is harmful or because maybe there is more
pressure going through the lines with a new pump.  Two mechanics say
they don't know what to do to get rid of this noise.

Does the hum go away and come back constantly? Or is the hum on all the time.

Is the hum coming from the rear of the truck? Where do you think you hear the sound coming from?

Would it be just the fuel pump running? No starting issues?

I guess it could be, but I never heard it before the replacements were put in. All the mechanics hear it and none of them have suggested that. I hope that is all it is. I have had the truck over 10 years with no problems, now this just as I am selling it. Thanks for your help.

I'm believing everything is fine, just working systems on the truck since everything is electrically run. If something was wrong, and there is no problem starting the truck, there would be a check engine light on the dash.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully when the gentlemen comes to look at the truck, he will think so too.

I know most of the replacement pumps you can hear hum when they are on.
