2000 Silverado 1500 - RIGHT Tail light out, brake light/blinker works.

Asked by Brandon Oct 29, 2014 at 12:03 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey all,

Right tail light stopped working on my truck. It was intermittently going out for a little
while, then stopped working altogether.

I have replaced the bulb, then the socket (soldered the wires together), then the whole
wiring harness from the tail light (3 sockets) to the junction box. I have also replaced
the junction box itself. Fuses all look good.

As I mentioned, the brake light DOES work when I press the brake pedal, and the left
tail light works all the time as well. I know it's a dual-filament bulb (one filament does
running light, the other does brakes). Seems crazy that the brake light works fine but
the running light doesn't light up.

Any suggestions of where to look for corrosion/rust, or what to replace next?

- Replaced bulb and socket
- Replaced junction box
- Replaced wiring harness from j. box to tail light
- Checked snap-in connections, they all look good to me. Wiggling connections doesn't
seem to change it.

I have the same problem on the same side. Break light and turn signal works but daytime running light is out. Also on the same side up front it isn't working.
