2000 Chevy 1500 truck stuck in 4wd low

2000 Chevy seems to be stuck in low 4wd. The switch has been replaced. When press 2wd button, it only flashes, which I understand to mean that it will not disengage the front wheels, to 2wd. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem? Or what I can test to find out what the problem is? Once before a similar thing occurred and the switch was bad, it was replaced and all was fine. Now just months later this happens. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the gear selector in NEUTRAL?
Switch is bad again,but you need to check wire,s at the transfer case and up to switch,sound,s like you may have some bad wire,s some where.

I assumed it was an automatic. Start the truck, put in neutral, push 4 high, put it into drive and pull forward a good 10-20 feet and see if it jumps into 4 high. Then try 2wd button and see if it goes into 2wd. If this doesn't work try it again but go into reverse instead of drive.
