Why does my 2001 Cheve Silverado 5.3 L make a knocking sound when started cold and then go away after it runs a minute or if it is driven a minute. The sound seems to come from the bottom of the motor or the tranny area and has been there since i bought the vehicle. It doesn't seem to be getting worse and someone suggested piston slap as the problem. Any ideas ? 4 Answers
The fluids are good and the tranny is rebuilt too.

Was rolling in 5th gear going 60, heard aloud screeching noise and it threw us forward in the seat and slowed it immediately to about 40.I pulled off to the side of the road and smoke was coming from under the truck.I looked around and couldn't see anything visibly wrong.I started it up again just fine and started rolling in 1st gear, then I tried to shift to 2nd the truck just stopped and wouldn't go into any gear.At this point the truck will start but when I let the clutch out, it dies(in neutral). Had to remove my drive shaft to be towed on towrope because it wouldn't roll smooth in neutral. When the engine is running now I don't feel any vibration through the gearshift anymore like how I used to before it broke down. What could it be? 3 Answers
