Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Ok, so my chevy has a new alternator, battery, and it wont crank or start,
everything on the dash board is fine, lights work, radio, just no crank or start.
Was thinking to put the ground wire on a different ground on the cylinder,
would that help? When i turn the ignition, there's one click and thats it. My
brother tried fixing it before I moved back home and there was a short black
wire rigged from under the starter fuse.

Make sure battery has a full charge? Battery cables/connections all good? Have you tried cranking in neutral rather than park, If it will crank in neutral, I'd have to check the neutral switch. Can you pull the starter relay? If so, you can do some testing at the relay. You see the two fuses, check those. At the starter motor, two voltage circuits, 1 circuit comes from battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot when starter relay is energized. The starter motor should ground through engine block. Any testing at starter motor, make sure transmission is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. Make sure vehicle can't move.
Thank you very much! I will give it a try
Gave it a try, every time I put the ground wire (negative) on the battery everything lights up, is it a bad ground wire?
Let me be more specific, everything lights up when the key isn't in the ignition, every time I put the negative on the battery

Harness on the passenger side of engine running just over top of tappet cover at the rear on V8 has a green wire with brown stripe. Ground it to the motor.
