I'm trying to beef up my 5.3 L Vortec 03' Chevy Silverado, any ideas?

You could put a little bigger cam in it, set of headers with 3" dia. tuned exhaust, plus a performance chip for the computer.
Or do you want to go more? Is the engine out of the truck?
You do not want to get too crazy with this motor as there is an issue with the pistons in this motor. They were not made right, wrong materials for one, how they kept building these.....and not all are bad but there is a percentage out there that are. Unless you are doing a total tear down, then you can decide how crazy you want to go.

I'm having trouble deciding which flowmaster to go with. I want a nice smooth tone when cruising but when I hit the gas I want heads to turn??

Buy a (bolt on supercharger kit) for a 100 hp increase. So much easier than all that turbo pumbing & tubing. And still you could always add tube headers & a roller hydraulic cam later.
