Alternator or battery?

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado and I came home
from work then went or and noticed the “battery
not charging” light on and the battery icon on. The
voltage meter went almost all the way down to 9
volts. Truck will not start without jump and when
you turn it off truck won’t start unless jumped.

thats a battery. What's happening is the alternator is charging enough to keep itself running, but the battery is not accepting the charge

Changed battery and still getting message of battery not charging. But truck starts up on its own
