truck hesitates while stopped sometimes

truck will hesitate sometimes at a stop, or while idling, and once it get going it runs fine.
while running on the highway i have no problems, when it hesitates it gives off a lean gas
smell, and like it has a miss until you get to a certain speed and it runs fine, until you get
to the next stop, and sometimes the next stop it will run fine.
