My 2004 Chevy Silverado 5.3 liter idles rough when sitting at a light

Asked by GuruL142P Apr 06, 2021 at 06:56 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The truck runs great as long as it's not sitting at a light or in the driveway, if it is it
sounds like it's sputtering. We did notice a small tick after we changed the
Oxygen sensors. We have changed the coils, plugs, oxygen sensors ( all 4 of
them) The code does says misfire but I'm sure that could be
anything. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I'd appreciate any help.

Or the tick may be a bad fuel injector on the cylinder that's misfiring. Code P0304 for example is a misfire on cylinder number 4. Hope that helps! Jim

First I would clean the air intake valve. They get clogged with fuel crud and act erratic. It is easy to do also and really needs to be done every 50,000 mi. If you have not done this you should do it anyway. Next I would remove that Vortec cover off the top of the engine (for at least few weeks) and see if that helps. Gently pull forward on the wire harnesses that are routed around the back of the engine near the transmission filler tube. Remove the battery cable for 30 seconds and reinstall it. You may be surprised. It's worth a try and doesn't cost anything especially with a little prayer too..
