My 2004 Chevy Silverado

When I go to start my truck it makes a sound a
loud screeching sound ...it happens randomly not
every time. My check engine light never comes on.
I have asked around , some say timer some say
starter....please help

Is the noise loud? and then it goes away little by little. Do u hear it all the time or just once in awhile?
