Door will Lock , but Not Unlock

Asked by BKL813 Nov 19, 2017 at 03:23 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Long story short I ripped my driver side door
handle completely off after purchasing a new door
lock Rod the 6-inch Rod that connects inside the
door from the keyhole lock to the actuator after
installing it I turn the key to the left it only goes
about an eighth of an inch and locks the door but
when I turn it to the right it turns maximum amount
and still will not unlock the door, it's binding.
When i Pull my Handle Out away from Door about a
1/4" ( bc i havent installed the plasic handle back
on completly) and Turn the Key it unlocks for me..

Im pretty Stumped, i know Something is just a
Little off i just don't know what??

Is it or could it be the Lock, bc on the inside of
handle where the rod connects there is some
wiggle room where the rod connects.

Or is the Actuator off a little bit and could be fixed .

I cant figure this out but can see im very close /
1/4" and it unlocks.

If i knew to buy/order a new Lock to put in the
handle i would...or Actuator.. But Time is Ticking as
i live in Michigan and use my Truck to plow snow..

ANY HELP AND SUGGESTIONS WILL BE VERY
MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

The rod is either to long or to short ... if it's to long a simple adjustment can be made but if to short then another rod must be purchased (as they don't make a "rod stretcher" Keep in mind that you must check/recheck before reassembly because if something comes loose you may live in an area where they have long-cold-winters
