Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So here it goes, my 04 has this clunking noise when you first accelerate. I took it to a
mechanic and they said its the transfer case, I guess the chain wore a hole in the case.
What model transfer case do I have in there? Im not currently near my truck, Im in the
navy and Im in school in San Diego. Truck is in Chicago. Best place to get a transfer
case for a good deal? Thanks guys!

In the glove box there is a black and white sticker. It had a bunch of 3 diget codes. Have somebody back here take a picture if it with their phone and send it to you. Call any GM dealer ask for the parts department. Give them the Vin number of your truck and they should be able to tell you what transfer case the truck came with from the factory. If not they should be able to tell you what code to find on the sticker in the glovebox and cross reference it that way.

I'm not near my truck at the moment, it's in Chicago and I'm currently in San Diego for school. That's why I asked the question, if there was a way to figure out which transfer case it is without being actually near the truck.

Yes I understood you. Have someone back home take a picture of the sticker with their phone and send it to you.

Hi my 2000 Chevy Z71 4WD makes the same rough noise upon acceleration. I took it to a Good Year and they lifted my truck and said it was the front transfer case. Problem is where I live the price for a rebuilt one would roughly cost me about $1,500.00 . Then to have it installed another $ 500.00 That's a lot of money. So I am researching the internet hopefully to get a lot better price.

Its easy to replace unbolt the drive shaft and then unbolt it from the transmission and it comes right out

LKQ used parts, big online grade A replacement parts.. just ordered a used t-case with a full year warranty for $528 to my door. And a drive shaft for $180 to the door.. the site says all parts are a year warranty and certified for shops to replace insurance work great A used.

135.89 tax included from the LKQ in South Florida, two hours of my labor($40 if I were to pay myself) and maybe 30 bucks in new gear fluid. I'm going to pull it out tomorrow. For some reason my 1999 Silverado has a manual t case when it should be electric. It's also missing the front drive shaft that will probably be another $30 so no more than $250 out the door and if I sell the manual one for the same $250 then I did something.
