I had a similar experience. It turned out to be the gas tank vent valve which is usually mounted on the frame below the gas cap. It goes through a cycle every time you start the truck checking for a gas cap vent leak. If it malfunctions you'll get a check engine light and an error message from the OBDII port. I changed mine and the problem has never re- occurred. It is cheap too! I've heard that it gets degraded by people who fill their gas tanks beyond the first "click" of "full" at the gas station.
