Engine block replacement

Asked by Izzyram Aug 27, 2012 at 10:41 AM about the 1994 Ford Tempo 4 Dr GL Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Chilton manual says to remove engine with trans as one piece. Is this necessary?
Couldn't I just remove and replace the block?

The block IS the engine for the most part. It contains the crank, pistons, and the cylinders are in it. In other words the block is the engine minus heads and intake. Front wheel drive cars is easiest to remove engine and trans as whole by removing both from under the car (drop the engine/trans).
