I believe this is done one of two ways. First, check the inside fuse panel to see if there is a push-button type relay located in it. This will be red and when depressed it will reset the oil life indicator. The other way is through a system of key on/key off cycles combined with ignition pedal pressing. My grandfather's Cadillac required you to turn the key to start (but not crank the engine) and off five times, while pressing the accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor and releasing it.

To reset the light, turn the key to the position just before the vehicle starts. (when all system check lights lite up.) Press and Depress the gas pedal four times completely. Then turn the key all the way back, like you are gonna take your key out. Wait Two seconds. Then turn key to on position just before truck turns on. You should hear three ring tones. Always works on my silverados 99-2006. Jiffy Lube taught me how. Let us know if you are successful!

From the other side of the world!(Netherlands) Tahoe LT 2001 works without the 3 ringtones but it works!!!

Got oil changed on 97 Silverado about 3 weeks ago and a tranny flush about 2 weeks ago. Oil pressure gage went to 0 a couple days ago. I had unplugged a few wires then plugged them back in and it went back to its normal. Two days later it went back down to 0 and today I started it and it died no more than a minute later. Any ideas?

It worked on our '07 Chevy Silverado 4x4 n all the way to 100%!! Really appreciate ur sharing of knowledge. Thnk u very much!!

On my 2008 Silverado 5.6 it just took 3 presses of the gas pedal and hold the last press about 5 seconds. When I released the gas pedal, the oil life reset to 100%. The instructions in the user manual are completely useless. Thanks Chevrolet!

Turn ignition switch till all power to the vehicle turns on (Do not crank). Once all lights are on depress the gas pedal 3 times and hold it on the 3rd press. The "change engine oil" message will go away and be replaced with "oil life reset" message. This message will remain for about 24-48 hours until the vehicle message timer registers the vehicle has been in use for its minimum standard. Normally by the second day the message will dissappear.

2011 Silverado is a no go. I followed the owners manual prior to this, nothing I DO seems to reset, or override anything. Lol

Worked for my 03 Silverado thanks cause it was driving me bonkers after I changed my oil! I was having OCD issues with it telling me to change oil when I just did it now to try get check air bag to stop popping up nothing wrong with airbags had checked but they place I took to didn’t know how to get at message showing up!

Worked on my 2000 Silverado. Holding the pedal down on the third stroke till the 'oil life reset' light comes on will reset the counter all the way to Zero. Otherwise, it'll put the light out but only reset to about 75% and you'll get a premature 'change oil' light sometime down the road.

Natasha, you need a shop that has an OCD writer that can reset the error codes on your Silverado. AutoZone can do it for you if they will. Just be sure that there really IS nothing wrong with your airbags before you reset the code.
