I have a 2004 Chevy 2500HD that I just bought. It has the Vortec 6.0 liter V8.
Its running 2500rpm at 70mph on the highway. Can i change the rears in the
rearend to get better mpg with lower rpm.

You probably have the 3.73 gear ratio in the rear end, if you had 4.10 you would be running up around 3200-3500 RPM. I'm not sure you'd really want to go with a higher gear ratio with what that set-up is, cause it would be a lot more strain on the trany, especially pulling anything heavy.

I was thinking of trying to go with something like 3.55 gears so that it would run lower rpm on the highway. Does anyone have any helpful information. I dont pull anything with the truck. I will be driving it on the highway mostly.

You have 4.10 gears and that's all the 6.0 2500hd came with... What I want to know is can I go to a 3.73 or even 3.55
I wouldn't do the 3.55 gear ratio, 3.73 is what I use, I have that in my K1500 4X4, it runs about 1700 rpm at 60 mph. and at 1500 at 50 mph with the 4lE60 trany.
2500 HD comes with 4.10, 2500 comes with 3.73. You can switch to 3.55 but if 4x4 you have to change the front to
