Another oil pressure question 2006 Chevy 6 liter gas

To start with my truck was bought new by my wife and I she drives it mostly
but not much , it only has 24,670 miles on it never been off road.
The oil pressure thing started the other day when she started it and told me
the chime was going off and the dash readout said low oil pressure and zero
on the gauge. While its running its not rattling or making other noise , now if
you hit the throttle and rev it to about 3500 rpms the oil pressure comes up to
normal 40 pounds and stays normal while I drive the truck. If I turn it off and
go into the store when I start it again its at 0 op till I rev it again then its
normal again. What do ya think guys , sending unit , screen/ filter under the
sending unit ???

Check oil level first. If level is ok and u recently dis an oil change, check the oil pressure with a gauge to see if sending unit is going bad. Or just replace the oil sending unit if u don't want to go through the hassle of checking pressure

Oil level was down a half quart so I topped it off , oil and filter was changed a couple of months age and dash display says 80% oil life left. How about a screen or filter under the the sending unit ?
How's the oil level and the filter? (just have to ask.) Does this have an external oil cooler? You can unplug the oil pressure sending unit and temporarily install a mechanical oil pressure gauge, then you'll know for certain what the oil pressure really is. There is also a screen where the sending unit plugs in, so try cleaning that out as well. It's hard to believe such a low-mileage truck could have a bad oil pump or gunked up pick-up screen or tube, so hopefully for you it's just a bad sending unit reading.

the screen under the sending unit , how does it come out , what is recommended to use to remove it ? Thanks , Gene

Well I changed the sending unit today and that didn't help, still the same. didn't check the screen , couldn't even see it, couldn't even see the hole the sending unit came out of. Tore up my hands and arms trying to my hands back there.
There is no screen, u need to make sure the hole is cleared of any debrie that will prevent oil flow. If u can't access the hole, star it up and see if it shoots oil out just to confirm it's cleared and remember to check oil pressure with a gauge

Yesterday after I changed the sending unit I started the truck up and it did the same thing as before, the chime went off the display said low oil pressure and the gauge read 0 (no engine noise) . After I reved the engine to about 3500 RPMs the op gauge went to 45psi at idle the display went off and the chime turned off, everything was normal and I drove it around the neighborhood then came home and shut it off, then started it back up again and everything was good, I shut it off again and let it sit for about 10 minutes then started it up and there was the chime ,low oil pressure and 0 on the gauge again, then I rev it to 3500 RPM and everything is all normal again. Ant ideas ? Gene
Like I mentioned before, u need to check pressure with a manual gauge, the gage in the truck doesn't really read the actual pressure. Check it when it's cold and again when it's at operating temperature

When I check it with a mechanical gauge if I choose to leave the mechanical gauge mounted inside the truck and not use the stock electrical setup do I just leave it unpluged will that effect the dash readout and the chime bells ?
U can leave it but u'll get the alarm that ur getting now because it thinks the pressure is low. I wouldn't drive around with it, you just want to findout if the pressure is low or not
