4wd light stays on

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am adding to my question. I own a 1993 ford explorer I bought it new. it only has 137,000
miles. Yesterday I had a new radiator installed. While driving home I noticed my 4 wd light
was on. I tried backing up it still stays on. Could it be a wire problem caused during the
radiator install?

The 4x4 system and its wires are nowhere near the radiator in your vehicle. Any chance the wiring harness has come disconnected underneath the vehicle ? Look to see if the wires on the transfer case under the auto (crawl under drivers door area and you will see it) have come loose or broken with age. Don't forget to run the codes to see what it reads (the 4x4 operations motor could be bad) and if nothing comes up check the dash switch as well. Some auto parts stores will run the codes for free.
