Does the fans for ford escape runs just at the start
of the engine.have noticed my fans are not
runining but the temperature on the dash board is
normal. How does they work?

They work using coolant temperature sensors. When the temperature in the coolant reaches the maximum temperature set by the computer, the sensor sends a signal to the fan relay switch to turn the fan(s) on. With the vehicle parked and running, turn the a/c on and, probably, one of the fans will start running. As long as the gauge continues to read the temperature at a normal point, you do not have to worry about anything.
