2002 ford escape horn and caution lights going crazy....

Asked by Sarabeth25 Jan 07, 2016 at 10:11 AM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a about 2002 ford escape a day this is the second time this has
happened ed to me but it stopped before and now it won't. My battery for my
remote to my car is dead and I haven't had it so I think it may be the problem
but it seems beyond that. One day I opened my door from the inside when I
was standing outside it with the windows down and my horn started going c
ray and so did my caution lights. I took out my horn fuse and my hazard fuse
and my horn stopped but my caution lights didn't. I tried taking out other fuses
for my caution lights but none seemed to work. I've unplugged my relay and
unplugged the security system and the caution lights still went off. Except
when I unplugged the relay they stopped but once I plugged it back up they
started going off again. So everywhere I go I have to uptake off a battery
terminal so it doesn't run my battery dead. And the only way I can get my
cautions lights to stop while I'm driving is if I have my headlights on or if my
battery is unplugged. I have no idea what the problem is. I think it made me
where the battery for my remote is dead but at the same time it seems for
complex than that. Does anyone have any idea? I'm really needing to sell this
be cut I'm getting a 3rd row vehicle but I can't sell it with it like this. Please
help. Thanks.

Get a cr2032 battery from the drugstore or the like and put it in the remote. When you opened the door from the inside without unlocking it the car thought it was being stolen. Usually turning the key on or disconnecting the battery for a while will reset it but it sounds like yours is being stubborn.

I have a 2002 Mazda Tribute which the manual says is same car as your Ford Tribute (rebadged). MIne started doing same after I recharged the battery (seems like something is setting anti-theft off - I have removed BTN2 fuse in emgine bay (BJB - Battery Juntion Box) to silence everything - the engine runs fine but keeps the flashers goig so working on stopping them and then can use it as need to get wife to doctors etc then am going through dydtem by system to find out what is causing it, will keep you informed as a few things come off that circuit which need to be isolated.
