timing chain replacement on 2.3L ford escape
Asked by Nick Oct 11, 2014 at 12:17 PM about the 2006 Ford Escape XLT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
went to start my escape, it started fine then when I went to go it started what sounded like it had a s\bad missing so I shut it down then when I went to try to restart it , she would just crank over and not start. I am thinking that the timing belt/chain has broken. engine has 108,000 miles and the chain/belt has never been replaced.
Am I correct in thinking that it is the belt.

Either one however is non-interference, maybe you should see the chart and figure out what's going on

Geez, i forgot your real question, getting in to whether it even has a belt or chain. The site I posted above says chain, and does indeed have a 2.3L-- contrary to the other one. It's rare for a chain to break but they stretch and tensioners do fail, so it is possible it has jumped time, but there are so very many other possibilities. http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/39768-006-ford-escape-23l-blown-engine/
The 2006 ford escape is a interference engine and has a timing chain not a belt also it came equipped with the 2.3 litter engine not the 2.5 durtec as the above has stated my spelling maybe off but my information is a fact.
