Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Elimination of possible problems first: New parts installed both sides front of
vehicle; Power Train; DURALAST, CV Axles, MOOG Wheel Bearing & Hub
Assembly half shaft nut torque 221 ft.lbs. (Recommended FORD Dealership), .
Suspension;  Lower Control Arms (sub-frame bolt 150 Ft. Lbs, Front Frame Bolt 74
Ft. Lbs.), Loaded Shock Struts (Top Bolts 35 Ft. Lbs. to Steering Knuckle 74 Ft.
Lbs). , Tie Rod End Outer (s), Wheel Alignment (O'Reilly Auto Service) , Tires in
Original Position. Brakes; Front Disc Type Re-manned Calipers, Disc Pads, High
Carbon Rotors. I can't see any debris or obstruction in the wheels. Yet the noise
only happens when I'm driving so it is not engine related. No noise at idle. And
sounds emanating from left front, and drivers side very, very, slight bit of vibration
in steering wheel when driving. No performance issues of any kind with
transmission or engine both running smoothly. Just noise like a baseball card in a
bicycle wheel spoke.?
If anyone has a clue what is going on please tell me what to repair. Keep in mind
all the new parts are installed to dealer specs., and both front sides of the car have
all new parts. Thank you.

Was this performed by a shop? Or DIY? If a shop - take it back and let them re-check their work until it's right. You have a very technical issue that would require a hands-on evaluation. If DIY, then check CV axles and wheel bearings - the "card in the spokes" sound is typically a wheel bearing noise.

yes, 'card in the spokes' is wheel-bearing assy, $75 + labor. Rplcd R-Frt 3X(last two in warr), ask for second(higher-qual) supplier. Les Schwab does this well. Fletch

Hi Guys: Thanks for your interest and efforts and answers. Here is what has happened. This was a DIY, and my first attempt at pressing a wheel bearing. I have solved this problem after viewing a video by Chris FIx on You Tube and assisted by the counter man at Auto Zone. As we watched the video on hub and wheel bearing assembly. Suddenly, my eye caught the detail I was missing in my DIY Wheel Bearing Assembly project. In setting the wheel pressing tool I pressed the wheel bearing into the steering knuckle in my basement workshop. Then next I inserted the "C" clip in the steering knuckle to hold the wheel bearing in. Next I pressed the Hub Assembly, and note here is where I made my error. When using my pressing tool I should have selected a pressing tool stop ( apiece of solid steel round disc, exactly the diameter of the inside of the steering knuckle. Instead I selected the steel disc of the pressing tool which was the exact diameter of the outside diameter of the steering knuckle.) Therefor when I pressed the hub assembly into the wheel bearing I was tearing the bearing apart at the seams. Not understanding this at the time and thinking all was good I reassembled everything an put it on the car. When I test drove the car of course I discovered the Wheel Bearing Noise Symptoms. But. Convinced that my work was correct is why I sought the advice from so many others. Again thank you for all your time and help the problem is solved the wisdom will not be forgetton and the car drives like a dream once again. \Jimmy Medeiros Cambridge, MA USA
