affects both front and back. change out the turn signal/wiper switch. still same problem. could it be the flasher switch under the steering column...even thou the flashers work?

OK. Use a multi-meter and check for power going to the switch with engine off, ignition switch turned to on position. If you have power there, you'll have to trace the dash circuit and determine if there is a loose ground connection somewhere. Since it effects both front and rear, see if you can find a location (maybe junction box) where the circuit leading out to the lamps all come together. It maybe easier to brace the line from the tail lights forward.

As for the flashers, I doubt it. If the flashers work, then the flasher switch is interrupting the voltage at that point and sending it forward. If you can find a color coded wiring diagram for your vehicle it will be a great benefit and time saver. The key here is finding where the voltage is being interrupted to the lamps. Since the problem doesn't always occur, it sounds like a loose ground.
