Can I replace rear struts with airbags?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My nephew has an explorer that we need to increase the rear load height a
little because he takes me to all my V.A. appointments (yes I am a disabled
vet) and we have to haul my electric wheelchair. We are looking for a
reasonably inexpensive way to level the ride height when we add all that
weight. Can we replace the struts with airbags? If it had leaf springs we
wouldn't have this trouble. Could you please help us??? Thanks, Ken.

Hi Ken, check with your local auto parts store. A kit may be available. If so it will have the struts, airlines, and a tire valve that can be mounted in the rear bumper to add or remove air pressure as needed. Hope that helps and thank you for your service! Jim
