Can I replace the original front seats of my ‘96 Ford Explorer with those of a different year or model?

Asked by Amanda Oct 19, 2019 at 02:49 PM about the 1996 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My seats are old and no longer hold their shape. I can feel the bar right under
the fabric of my driver’s seat. I’d like to be able to get my kids a headrest
mount for the tablet so they can watch movies in the car. My current seats
don’t have detachable headrests, so I’m wondering if it’s possible to replace
the front seats with a different type of seat. Is the original seat type my only
option? They’re power seats with levers and buttons, which I love. But they’re
so old and don’t offer much in the way of adjusting a headrest.

There are many options made to fit your car. Investigate online catalogs to find what you want. The tracks will fit vehicles as advertised and the seat adjusters are just a plug-in connector under the seat body. Ost seats are held in by 4 bolts through the floor. Some bolts are covered with decorative caps.
