Constant clicking noise from the engine.

Asked by sanddogpq Nov 07, 2024 at 04:18 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Explorer. Went to put my key and there was a constant ticking
noise and the car won't start. I pulled out the key and the clicking doesn't stop.
Disconnect the battery and the clicking stops. Reconnect the battery and the
clicking starts again. It sounds like the clicking is coming from the fuse box. Any
ideas?

Sounds like the security system has been activated, check the owner's manual for your model specific shut down procedures. You should also check for proper voltage, if it's too low the shutdown won't work but will keep reactivating until the battery goes dead.
