Can I put a ford crown Victoria engine into a Ford
Explorer I see that they are both 4.6 v8 and they
both have the option of an 8th digit vin w but I
didn’t want to buy an engine for nothing.

What year vehicle in the engine coming out of? If much newer than 2003, you may have to take along sensors not present in your vehicle. The computer may also have to be taken along, along with a new flash. Then, if you ever need engine work in the future, you will have to tell the mechanic the what year engine you installed before he starts work and diagnosis.
