Question type: Maintenance & Repair

just under 60000mi. Light comes on after 2mi. Did not come on during drive to work this am (about 60mi) but did come on coming home. Most people i talk to say its probably coming on b/c I'm getting close to 60000mi and i need a tranny flush and filter. Is there any truth to the time light and does it go by mileage or can it tell the condition of the fluid?

The only lights that come on by milage and time are "maintenance" lights. The light you have comming on is the "Check Engine" light? Your vehicle has sensors that tell you if your engine oil or coolant is low but not if its dirty. Yes, maintenance on oil, transmission, power steering, coolant, etc... is recommended for longevity, but will not fix your light. The best thing to do is to have light "scanned" for codes that will give you or the mechanic and idea of where the problem lies. As long as the light is not "blinking" there is not an imediate rush to have it fixed and is most likely to be an emissions sensor problem. If the light is "blinking", Stop driving and get to dealer/garage soon!

Thank you david. I ended up taking it to the dealer and it was a solenoid and torqe converter. Fyi the service advisors told me this is a extremly common problem on all explorers. They claim once its fixed its a done deal. If the previous owner had bought the car 2 months later it might have been covered. We only had a 30 day warranty and the light came on 2 weeks after that. Just my luck but thanks again.

I found that the wires on my tps were brittle at the back of the plug and shorting out I got lucky and re wrapped each wire and my wrench light went out and it started shifting normal again.
