Ford explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2001 ford explorer 2 door sport. The 4wd
quit working a while back. I have changed the
switch, gem module, transfer control module and
the shift motor on the transfer case with no luck. If
I pull the shift motor off the transfer case and have
someone move the selector switch I can feel the
motor getting power and the gear that turn the
shaft moves just the slightest bit. I tried this with 2
new motors with the same result. Any help would
be greatly appreciated

If the transfer case motor works then there may be an internal problem in the t-case.

I pulled the new motor off and had someone turn the selector switch to 4wd while I watched the motor and the gear that turn the shaft in the transfer case barely moves. It seems to turn the slightest bit then goes back. I turned the shaft on the transfer case itself to make sure it was nothing with the 4wd itself and it works fine.
What you describe makes me agree with the first answer, there must be an internal problem with the transfer case.

I don't believe that's the issue cause with the motor off I turn the shaft to put it in 4wd and it drives and works fine
Then you will need some one to actually take a look at it. It is difficult to diagnose a problem like that "long distance".
