The car you drove away from the dealership generally has a computer chip designed to give you decent mileage and decent performance. You can replace this chip, however, with one that will give you more performance at the expense of decreased gas mileage. Or you can get one that gives you better mileage and worse performance. Such devices can be found at the hundreds of "tuner" sites you can find using search engines like Google or Yahoo. A friend of mine also added a cold air intake system to his car and claims he gets 26 more horsepower. It was also simple enough to install that he did it himself.
