What can be done to mitigate the Ford Five Hundred's horsepower deficit (203 hp) versus the Fusion's (220 hp) using the same engine?
Both the Fusion and the Five Hundred use the Duratec V-6. So also does the Ford Escape. It would seem that the larger car (Five Hundred) would have the more powerful engine. But the Fusion's V-6 is rated at 220 hp while the Five Hundred's v-6 is only rated at 203 hp. Why is this? And what can the Five Hundred owner due to 'tweak' that 17 more horses out of his engine ?

Dear 41Ford500-- Most Ford 500 owners are content with the horsepower they have, but you might be able to add a few more if you like. The car you drove away from the dealership generally has a computer chip designed to give you decent mileage and decent performance. You can replace this chip, however, with one that will give you more performance at the expense of decreased gas mileage. Or you can get one that gives you better mileage and worse performance. Such devices can be found at the hundreds of "tuner" sites you can find using search engines like Google or Yahoo. A friend of mine also added a cold air intake system to his car and claims he gets 26 more horsepower. It was also simple enough to install that he did it himself. I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck from Bovan.
