well it almost sounds like grounding, so check out those wires on the battery and get back to me if the problem continues -RTBBilly

RTBBilly, do you mean check out the ground wire, negative, on the battery and make sure it's not frayed, or corroded? Thanks, John

RTBBilly, I have the same issue. 2005. Check charge and Batt light come on and go off intermittently. At times, when on freeway, I can gun it and the lights go off for a few minutes. Other times, it doesn't matter. Lights last between 2-7 minutes roughly. About half that when off. I've tested directly at Alt with and without load. Runs @ 13.8-14.4 until lights come on dash. Then drops to 12.4

Jason, just curious, did in you replace the alternator be earlier ? After looking back, my battery went dead, we jump started it until I got home and put a charger in the battery and switched to booster. We left it in for a couple hours. I ended up replacing the alternator. I think I made the problem worse when we hooked up the charger/ booster. The alternator we be used was bad, my check battery light stayed on until I had a different mechanic check it out. After he replaced the alternator, again, the lights and warnings went out. It was normal. Be very careful jump starting this car. Watch what alternator you in use. Good luck. John

Hi John, I had replaced the battery first. Alternator 2nd. As I have a second vehicle, I am not driving the 500. So I have not needed to charge the battery. Only taken a couple very short trips (less than 5 miles) since swapping them. My local shops seem leary about bench testing the old alternator. I am curious as to whether that was the original problem or not. I bought a re-man (I know, I know) I would be much happier to know if it is a simple cable issue. But tracing wires is ridiculous due to the location of the alt. I have been attempting to navigate through my alldadtdiy subscription that I have, but the diagrams are just as confusing.

John, Did you ever find a resolution for "2006 Ford five hundred, replaced alternator, batt. Light and " check charging sys." light still on". I got the same thing on a 2005 Explorer. Alternator went out, battery was over 5 years old. Put on New battery, New alternator. Charging voltage ow 14.2-14.6 on meter. Still have battery light on and message "Check Charging system." Battery voltage never drops below 13.7 with engine running. No OBD codes found with my reader. Looks like it is just an old message that won't clear, even with unplugging battery for 5 minutes.
