2002 Ford Taurus SE Replacement Wiper Rubber REFILLS

Asked by Venable15 Feb 18, 2024 at 12:08 AM about the 2002 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am replacing the RUBBER REFILL material on the wiper arms (not the
entire arm itself) to save money. From Amazon for Mounting Type and Fit
Type,  I have 3 choices. Which one do I order?

Color: A  Grey
Mounting Type:  Pinch Type;
Fit Type: Universal

Color:  C   Black
Mounting Type:  Pinch Type
Fit Type: Not designated

Color:  D  Black
Mounting Type: Pinch Tab
Fit Type: Universal

The alphabetical designations A, C, D, do they refer to an adaptor or just the
color or something else?

D assume I have a Pinch Type for mounting type, there is no other choice
available.

You want to replace the wiper blade and get black ones. The refills on these are not designed to be replaced. Visit your local auto parts store and I bet you can find blades cheaper than what you're prepared to pay for the refills, which won't fit right, on Amazon. Most stores will even put the new blades on for you free of charge. Hope that helps! Jim

I understand that the rubber material (I want to upgrade to silicone) may not be "designed" to be replaced, but it doesn't mean it can't be replaced on the original 2002 wiper arm--- Youtube is full of videos on how to do it on various model cars (except for Taurus!). Replacement of two entire wiper assemblies (normal change-out as you say) is $65+. I can get 4 strings of silicon wiper blade material (28" inches in length each) and cut them to the required 20" and 24" lengths for the Taurus (leaving me enough material for a 2nd changeout years down the road) for $12. So that is 2 x $65=$130+ versus $12 I'd be crazy not to try this, too. James says I want the black ones, not the grey ones what is the reasoning behind that decision, that would be helpful.

Here is what I want to do. Do you know if these caps on the end of the Ford Taurus 2002 come on and off? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR1GccvA6XQ

The style wiper blade shown in the video are Bosch beam style wiper blades. As far as I know those end caps are not available by themselves. I'm assuming you don't already have that style blade since they didn't originally come on your car. So, even if you got the end caps they won't fit on your current wiper blade. If you want to go that route and don't already have the kind of blades shown in the video you'll need to buy them, this time, then follow the instructions in the video in the future. If you do already have the Bosch beam blades just be careful not to break the end caps when you remove them. You might try looking at Bosch's website and see if you can buy the end caps directly from them. Good luck to you! Jim

BTW, check out rockauto.com for those beam style wiper blades. They're much cheaper than $65! Even the silicone ones. I've bought from them before. The quality is the same as you would get at your local auto parts store. Jim
