2004 taurus. No oil engine knocking. Dies when idling.

I dont know much about vehicles and
needed an oil change and more oil in
my 2004 ford taurus. The engine
started knocking really bad out of
nowhere when I was driving and it
would knock some on turns. I parked it
and checked the oil and it needed more
so I put it in. The knock hasnt gone
away and the engine seems to run bad
and die. I havent driven it of course. Is
it obvious what's wrong or can it be
many things? If I take a video of the
sound will that help?
