My Car Has an Aftermarket Alarm System

Question type: General

I recently bought a 2005 Ford Taurus and I found out from my mechanic that the car has an aftermarket alarm system in it. Before I learned this I purchased a brand new remote that is for this model car but obviously not for the aftermarket alarm. I tried to cycle the doors on my car by turning the ignition on and off eight times but nothing happened. I'm now wondering if I should have this alarm system removed and buy another one or is there any way to program my new remote to this aftermarket alarm system?

I don't know much about aftermarket alarm systems - OEM guy here. The remote is specific to the system so, no - two different systems, different frequencies, apples and oranges. The only thing I have against aftermarket alarm systems is their shoddy installation (butt connectors and taps by an $8 an hour kid) and that most of them are just noise-makers. A good alarm will disable the vehicle as well.
