test drove one with 68,000 miles and there was a slight oil smell after a short drive. Is this normal?

If it is normal i would consider it poor build quality or someone in the lube shop got messy. Burning oil = bad unless it's a 2 stroke

Pop the hood & see if slight smoke coming from both sides of the engine. Very likely the valve cover gaskets need replaced. Only takes about an hour. Very common on the Audi's. Agree with Tom, have it checked out by an independent mechanic (not a big dealership).
