Why exactly would there be gas in the oil?

Fuel pressure regulator or fuel return line may cause too much fuel in the engine. Excess fuel can push past the rings if the engine isn't running properly or won't start.

It starts and runs. I believe it just started doing it. The water pump is also leaking , would that cause anything like that? Also the tensioner pully is messed up
Well, I don't think you can properly diagnose something like this over chat. We still do not know the root cause. You may be better served by having a shop diagnose the problem. You will need test tools and some way to check the fuel pressure. I don't think I can fully explain the entire process to diagnose the problem.
