Oil Light comes on, must keep over 1000 RPM & light goes off

Asked by dhillosky Jan 28, 2012 at 12:39 PM about the 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Oil light comes on after car heats up.  It comes on after idle at less than 1000 RPM.
When driving on city streets or  Highway, light stays off . I have the same problem with 2001
Sebring conv.  Why?

Don't know the specifics of these engines, although we own a PT, and did, in the past own a Sebring conv. (never again). But, in general sounds like a weak oil pump, bad pump seal or clogged oil system somewhere blocking flow. In any case you oil light is indicating a condition of not enough oil pressure, not good whatever the root cause.
