2003 PT Cruiser overheating

Asked by rawdawg420rl Jul 27, 2016 at 10:14 PM about the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2003 PT Cruiser LTD. I've changed the thermostat, replaced the temperature sensor,
flushed it, refilled it and yet it continues to overheat about every 10 miles. What am I missing
here?

Wrong type of antifreeze can cause the car to over heat if the green is mixed with the orange. The dexcool is the correct antifreeze to use which is orange. Do a complete flush and refill with the orange dexcool 50/50.

Same problem, 2003 PT Cruiser overheating when hot outside and on the fwy or pulling a hill. I followed the Backyard Mechanic Troubleshooting Procedure - changed out suspect parts first which don't cost much. Changed the t-stat from 195 deg to 180, didn't help. Flushed the cooling system twice, didn' t help. Replaced the pressure cap, didn't help. Checked the water pump - OK. Checked the fan - OK. Since my AC gave up a couple years ago, I removed the AC condenser that's mounted in front of the radiator, didn't help. Finally bought a new TYC radiator online, 70 bucks delivered which indicated to me that this is not a high end piece of equipment. Eureka! No more overheating! It took entirely too long to get there, but did finally get there
