2002 pt crusier timming belt need help
Asked by Corey Nov 15, 2017 at 09:39 PM about the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wagon FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2002 2.4 pt auto with 53k on it, someone previous
worked on the car , they did a timming belt and a water
pump, when i got the car it was bucking and poppjng when
started, so i went to delaer and got the timming belt
tensioner upgrade and case, after putting it back together
the car starts and runs fine for 3 or 4 secs you can rev it up
and then it shuts down to 1500rpm max, like its in limp
mode, no codes coming up , ive pulled it down and checked
the Timming even, started back over and retimming the
engine, still the same thing, kinda stumped anyone ever ran
across this or similar , advice would be grateful!
Thanks corey

sounds like the one on U toob with the worn timing belt , but "they" did that far as you know , the one on line was hooked to a screen with grafts that showed how the timing would fail soon after start up
They ordered a kit online with a belt amd tensioner, so you may be correct, ive had my doubts about the belt, have to take tensioner off to get the belt on it, but yes belt is new, may neee to get a belt from dealer and staet over again.

I just don't take someones word anymore , while more than likely it can be the truth it is still an assumption , That's what I told them in jury duty that I don't believe ANYTHING ANY ONE says , I was excused
Fixed!!!!! Update !!! I let car sit for a while , and pulled it back into shop pulled the timing off and retimed engine, after puttikng back together it was still cutting out at 1500 - 200p rpm wouldnt go past 40, unpluged tps and bam! Car took off , after watching the scan tool i noticed the tps wasnt moving stuck at 5.8 % regardless of what i did , replacing sensor this morning along with cooling fan and tranny gasket!! Hope this helps someone !!

good to hear , some belts need a few revolutions of the motor to see if timing marks are on
