Go on Dodge's website and go under "For Owners." With your Vin number the site will tell you exactly what your towing capacity should be.
Can anyone tell me the specific difference between a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan EX and one with the heavy dudty towing package? My vehicle has the tranny cooler, heavy duty alternator, 4 wheel disc brakes, 3.8 l engine. If anyone could volunteer the last 8 digits of their VIN I could call Dodge and get a comparison. It would be much appreciated. I want to buy a boat that is near the towing limit of the standard EX but I think most or all of the components qualify it for the towing package. Thanks in advance
Old post but 1800lbs for NON trailer package vehicles. On the Towing package upgrade you can pull 3500lbs (comes with larger cooling system and oil coolers)
I don't recommend towing with these vehicles.

Hey guys if you are gonna talk about towing capasity we have to know what motor/hd ser group? Ect.if you do not know to put you engine size in your question you should not be pulling a grocery cart.you are a rd danger to us all
Never experienced so much confusion in my life as dealing with the towing ability of my Van. I have a 2016 GRAND CARAVAN - SXT. I was told I could tow up to 3600 lbs. The dealer failed to advise me that this is max and only when it has the factory installed Trailer Tow Group which increases the towing by 2000 lbs. So 3600 minus 2000 lbs is 1600 lbs. Then I have the folding seats and I have to take off another 100 lbs. So my van that I purchased to tow a small trailer less than 3000 lbs dry weight can not be towed. I turned in my Uplander because it could only tow 2000 lbs now I have a van that I put a Class II hitch on and I can only tow 1500 lbs but the hitch is rated for 3500 lbs. I talked to everyone I could to find out if I could tow anything with the current specifications of my van and the useless people at the Call Center said yes you can tow 3600 lbs. Yes that may be the case but only if you had the factory Trailer Tow Group installed. Now after arguing with my dealer who even had the nerve to say I could tow 3600 lbs said that if I had the Trailer Tow Group I could pull an extra 2000 lbs. How could this be when the Trailer Tow Group states Class II hitch is part of the package and a Class II is maxed out at 3500 lbs. So now the 2018 book shows 1500 lbs towing capacity. Kind of late for me having bought my van put the Class II hitch on it and now find out I can only tow 1500 lbs or 2000 lbs less 100 lbs because of my folding seats which weight a lot and I have to take off 100 lbs for this. I am really upset at Dodge for even confusing the sales people and everyone sticking to their guns that I can tow 3600 lbs with no Trailer Tow Group. I might be able to put new shocks, transmission cooler and other things but that would void my warranty possibly. Not a happy CAMPER.
I too have been going around in circles with Dodge USA. 2018 is the first year I've seen since 2012 that states the towing capacity is 1500lbs for any 2012+ Grand Caravan. That is Dodge USA statement. At first the dealer said 3600 lbs, because that is the number you see whenever you look up specs. But on the Dodge website under Performance it states 1500lbs - and thats the only place I've seen it in print. After pointing that out, the dealer recapitulated, but stated that "Fleet Vehicles" when "properly equipped" , the tow capacity is 3600lbs. Prior to 2008 - for sure - the towing package did consist of a lot of mechanical upgrades - larger coolers, alternator, brakes, suspension - in addition to the hitch and wiring. From 2012 up, all vans were capable of towing 3600 because all vans had standard upgraded mechanical components - the tow package was only the hitch and 4 pin wiring. I'm not use about the intermediate years. For 2019, a tow package is not even offered by Dodge. I have no idea what major changes Dodge did between 2017 and 2018 to make the towing capacity drop to 1500 lbs. Probably new lawyers.
Hi have question here I have 2011 grand caravan 3.8L and bought a tent trailer weighing 1500lbs dry and dont have tow package would it be fine to drive over hilly terrain?
Not sure what my capacity is now after reading this. I have a 2014 Grand Caravan RT. I put my own hitch on it. I normally just put my 20ft Stratos Bass boat in and out of the water with it or tow it for 5 miles to the other side of the lake. Thinking this had a 3600 lb capacity, I towed the boat 900 miles to FL and 900 miles back. No Transmission cooler on it but I did have a monitor, the highest temp I got was just over 200. 95 percent of the trip it was 180 or less. Plan on making the same trip again this feb but adding a cooler. I pulled this boat previously with a 2003 grad caravan without any issues before my son demolished the ole girl. The brakes on this are very big, the motor will pull this thing 85 plus mph without breaking a sweat, but I kept it around 75 most of the time. The trailer I just bout a month ago is a dual axle and has disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Since I bought it used, I am not concerned about the warranty. But I would like to know if there is anything that I am missing to bring it up to the 3600lb capacity
I am a 2017 dodge grand caravan owner, and pulled a small trailer around 2,800 pounds empty. it seems no one; even the dodge dealer can provide an absolute answer to how much can be pulled. have invested lots of money on: a weight distribution hitch, sway bar, modifications to the rear end springs "for some reason dodge did or does not use shocks on the rear end ?"transmission cooler and oil cooler, and yet this dam dodge struggles to pull the trailer "empty!" . I think those dodges are really a heavy vehicle in the first place, and not really capable of pulling any thing other that their own weight.

I'm so frustrated. I was looking for a new vehicle. I had a Saturn Vue v6 and had no problems towing with it. Everyone of the car companies say their vehicles can tow, but when looking into it, they cannot or you cannot find a vehicle with a tow (trailer) package. They want campers to have trucks. I bought a 2019 dodge caravan SXT v6 because everyone said it can tow 3600 pounds. I only need to tow max 2400 pounds with not much weight in the vehicle. Now I don't know if I can even tow at all. It says it has tans & engine oil coolers but maybe that isn't enough. Help what do I need to do so I can tow? I only need to tow 3 weeks about 600 mileage a year.
