so I've been smelling something that smells like burnt rubber coming from the
tailpipe of my 2000 dodge caravan and the morning but and the afternoon the
exhaust smells ok

Pop the hood and see if a pully is binding up or wobbling , what ever it's for may be ready to quit ,

coming from the tailpipe, it might be the catalytic converter has lost its shield and is burning up the car.
