Engine humming

Asked by John Nov 25, 2018 at 08:01 AM about the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 06 Grand Caravan SXT. I noticed
when the engine is cold there is a loud
humming noise coming from it and goes
away or quiets down when the engine is
warmed up. This does not have any effect
on the driveability or performance of the
vehicle. Also, when I turn the car off
sometimes I hear what sounds like a fan
still running for a few seconds. Any ideas?

Idler pulley or harmonic balancer? Worn belts? Bearings on a/c compressor or alternator? All these can quiet down when warmed up.
