rack in pinion stearing

i jacked my car up found conciderable amount of play on the rods that go into the rack oppisite end of tie rod is this adjustible can i get a break down of the dissasembley assemble on a mustang stearing rack its wierd i started the car jacked up and still there was play when i drive on freeway i can break with no hands on the wheel and car stops straight kind of wierd
