Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1991 Ford Ranger 2.9,and I am having a heat problem I did change the thermostat but no heat yet, this is what I found so far. I checked top radiator and its hot,the bottom hose on radiator is cold. the 2 hoses running to the heater core are hot. I do not see a weep hole on the water pump but I am not loosing any antifreeze. Could the water pump be shot? or could it be the Temp.Sender unit? I do not think it is the blend door. i did look at the heater core no leaks that i could see. any other thought? please help I need heat soon.

If you watch the water with the radiator cap off and it doesn't seem to be flowing from left to right then you probably do need a water pump, UNLESS, perhaps wen you put the thermostat in you may have accidently put it in BACKWARDS, which wouldn't be the first time THAT HAS happened! Actually, that's what I'd be HOPING was the problem! Good Luck, friend!

If it was overheating then you would see the hoses expanded and usually hear the relief valve on the radiator cap. Crank up your Ranger and wait for the water to start flowing in the radiator to see if it's working. Check www.rangerpowersports.com for more help, they're great.

I have all ready check coolant temp, I am running 182, AC is command on? wtf...............is this a control vlv? the heater vlv is the closed or off conddiction I'm an still getting cold condition air and no heat? Any help out there..................

Leave it where its at ranger didn't put 2.9s in 91s they stop in 90. 91 went to 3.0.

I have a 91 ranger and it did come with a 2.9 and on select few these motors have 4.0 parts on them because I found out when 2.9 parts didn’t fit they were 4.0 parts and I bought this truck brand new in fall of 90
